Early Years
An Introduction to Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
At South Downs our EYFS Team are proud to provide a welcoming, caring and nurturing learning environment. All of our activities are learning opportunities, planned to enable our pupils to reach their fullest potential. We aim to provide the highest quality of education by designing stimulating environments with varied learning experiences to develop our pupils into happy, confident and independent learners.
In June 2019 South Downs were awarded the EYFS Quality Mark and this was renewed in June 2021 - please click on our Quality Marks tab (on the left) for more information and to read the report.
Our Early year’s department consists of a nursery and two reception classes, and is situated on our West Site in Beechy Avenue, Eastbourne. The EYFS classrooms are all located within one building on the site. The classrooms have direct access to a shared EYFS outdoor learning space, allowing continuous opportunities to play and explore both inside and outside of the classroom.
Our EYFS staff are highly experienced and skilled at working with a whole variety of pupils with SEN. Establishing partnerships between parents, carers and EYFS practitioners has a positive impact on pupils’ development both academically and socially. We offer opportunities to develop and enhance these relationships through regular “Stay and Play” coffee morning events over the year.
